Saturn in Vedic Astrology

Saturn or Shani (Delayed Post & thats one of Saturn’s trait)

What is Saturn in Vedic Astrology?

Briefly explained straight from my heart!

This post has been significantly delayed and that’s what Saturn represents; delays. It is the slowest moving grahas in out of all 9. It takes approximately 2.5 years to transit through one sign hence, 30 years of age is known as the Saturn return period which brings significant changes in many people’s lives. I can go on and on about Saturn forever, as it is the most beautiful of all planets however, most fearful to many people due to certain myths and misconceptions. I will try to remove them and there is no need to be scared of Saturn.

Saturn is the strict disciplinarian, the natural GnatiKaraka (the significator of obstacles). Saturn has an intrinsic nature of being obstructive and it should be taken positively as it is a way of life and essential to build resilience. Saturn is a hard task master and is also a King-maker. It highlights the karmas in our chart and who we are today is a result of our past life karmas. The disciplinary nature of Saturn manifests itself in providing justice, building patience & perseverance, evolving tact & diplomacy, building honor & chastity and the ability to cope up with difficulties in our existence.

If you have a powerful Saturn in your natal birth chart then, it can make you a King, condition, you are disciplined and true to your own self. A weak Saturn on the other hand will bring in hurdles and setbacks to help you learn. Saturn is the day lord of Saturday, the last day of the week. The best remedy to strengthen the Saturn in your chart is to be disciplined in your life and respect your elders. Saturn takes more time than usual to give you anything since its a cold and slow moving planet so, this helps us in coping up with delays and setbacks and getting back on track sooner than expected. There are lots of myths associated with Saturn’s sadhe sati i.e. the 7.5 year period when it transits 12th, on and 2nd from your natal moon. It is not bad since, there are countless examples of people reaching to great heights during this period. Its an important phase and one should learn how to handle your own self to make the most of it. Saturn’s mahadasha lasts for 19 years and in my personal opinion is one of the best dasa’s to have between the age of 20-45.

Here are some insight on its relationships and rulership.

It is friends with Venus, Mercury, Rahu & Jupiter It is neutral towards Mars, Moon & Ketu It has enmity with Sun Saturn rules the sign of Capricorn and Aquarius Saturn is exalted in the sign of Libra and gets debilitated in the sign of Aries Saturn is the yogkaraka (favorable and important planet) for Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn & Aquarius ascendants. Saturn aspects the 3rd, 7th and 10th house from itself. Saturn is the natural significator of the 6th, 8th and 12th house in the Chart.
