I learnt about this great exception by reading one of Marc Boney’s books where he quoted Shri KN Rao sir. Thereafter, decided to research on a few charts as well to confirm its applicability. 

Let’s understand these shlokas from BPHS Chapter 39, shloka 19 and 20. 

षष्ठेऽष्टमे तृतीये वा स्वस्वनीचगता ग्रहाः ।

लग्नं पश्येत् स्वभोच्चस्थो लग्नपो राज्ययोगदः

षष्ठाऽष्टमव्ययाधीशा नीचस्था रिपुभेऽस्थगाः ।

स्वोच्चस्वभगलग्नेशो लग्नं पश्यंश्च राज्यदः 

The two shlokas translates as:

1. If any of the 6th, 8th or the 3rd houses are occupied by a deblitated graha and, if the lord of the lagna or ascendant is exalted, placed in its own sign or aspects the lagna itself. Then there is Raaj yoga! 

These deblitated grahas posited in the 3rd, 6th and 8th houses will give raaj yoga in their periods and sub-periods.

2. The second shloka suggests that a raaj yoga is formed when the 6th, 8th and 12th lords are debilitated, in inimical sign or combust and, the lord of the lagna is exalted, in own sign or aspects the ascendant. 

Applying the 1st shloka on a few charts and it shows 100% promising results:

Aries ascendant with Moon placed in the 8th house in its debilitation sign of Scorpio. Mars is placed in the lagna in its own sign if Aries. 

He had a tremendous political rise after the beginning of his Moon mahadasha in 1971 and became the president of the US in 1974. This change was very controversial and sudden (8th house) due to an impeachment and resignation of his predecessor.

Demi has a debilitated Mars in her 6th house in the sign of Cancer. She is an Aquarius ascendant with lagna lord Saturn placed in the own sign of Capricorn. This again qualifies for the dictum. She started her acting career in 1981 which was the beginning of her Mars mahadasha and was very successful with movies coming in till 1988 and later went on to become the highest paid actress on all time with a record-breaking salary of $ 12.5 million in the movie Striptease. A perceived bad dasha turning out to be the best dasha by bestowing a raaj yoga.

Oct 11 1942 time – 16:00 place – Allahabad, India 

His chart has been discussed by many astrologers and students and is quite popular. He has Venus in the 8th house in Virgo its sign of debilitation. The ascendant is Aquarius and lagna lord Saturn is in the 4th house in Taurus. Here Saturn is not exalted or in own sign but, having an aspect on the lagna (10th aspect). He started his Venus mahadasha in 2014 which is ongoing and we all know that he is absolutely unstoppable. The Big B and the Big Brand with year after year success in movies and also television with the show KBC.

July 17 1969 time – 12:00 place – Jaunpur, India

He is a Virgo ascendant with Saturn in the 8th house debilitated in the sign of Aries. His lagna lord Mercury is placed in the 10th house in its own sign of Gemini. In the year 2008 he won the most popular Bhojpuri actor award and this was in his Moon-Saturn time period. See the perceived bad phase doing wonders for him as a raaj yoga activation.

His chart has also been discussed many times but, I just want to point one single observation.

He is a Leo ascendant with a debilitated Mercury in his 8th house in Pisces. His lagna lord Sun is exalted in the 9th house in the sign of Aries. Based on these details, the shloka applies. He was selected at the age of 16 in 1989 in the Indian cricket team during his Moon-Mercury dasha, made his international debut in the same year and, the rest is history!
