Maran refers to die or to decay or towards death. Marana refers to the body which is dying or parts of the body and things related to it. The sthana or the place refers to the houses from the lagna. So, MKS is the place where the planet is going to die. So, the naisargika karakatwa or the natural significantion of the planet is going to die, what the planet stands for is going to die but, everything is not going to die. Hence, we can say it is about the significations getting ruined of that planet.
Planets get MKS by being in certain houses from the lagna as mentioned below along with the karakas of the house in brackets.
- Sun – 12th house (Saturn)
- Moon – 8th house (Saturn)
- Mars – 7th house (Venus)
- Mercury – 4th and 7th house (Moon & Venus)
- Jupiter – 3rd house (Mars)
- Venus – 6th house (Saturn)
- Saturn – 1st house (Sun)
- Rahu – 9th house (Jupiter)
- Ketu – 4th house (Moon)
Some interesting observations:
– Sun is Marana karaka in the 12th house who’s significator is Saturn and Saturn is marana karaka in 1st house who’s significator is the Sun.
– Jupiter gets Marana karaka in the 3rd house of kaama or lust, it is also the house of conflicts and Jupiter is highest satva who would naturally gets uncomfortable in this situation. 3rd house is also guru upadesha and Jupiter is the one who loves giving upadeshas.
– Sun, Moon and Venus get Marana karaka in Dusthanas who’s karaka is Saturn and there is so much difference in their nature as compared.
– Malefics get marana karaka in Kendra houses.
– Mars and Mercury who are bachelors get marana karaka in the 7th.
– Rahu gets marana karaka in the house of dharma and purva punya i.e the 9th house.
Why is a graha in MKS in your chart?
The answer to this is connected to our past life where the graha must have faced sufferings, so it is in the marana karaka sthana or MKS in the current life.
As mentioned in my previous post Purva Punya or karmas from the past lives should be seen in the 9th house, Navamsa and D60.
So, if we take the 9th house or Sagittarius sign of the kaalpurush chart as the ascendant, we have Sun in the 4th house (12th MKS) in zero digbala. Jupiter is in the 7th house (3rd house in KPC) again in zero digbala or directional strength. From this lagna Moon from the lagna is in the 12th house (8th in KPC) indicates not being bothered about self or own body due to a lot of bad habits. We can apply for all the other grahas accordingly and we will find some very relevant reasons justifying the MKS position.
Does this means that MKS is a bad position to have?
NO!! It can be very good as well and have potential benefits.
First – This graha is ready to die for you since its in MKS. Lets take some examples of this working very well in some cases.
- Lord Ram – Mars in MKS in the 7th in its sign of exaltation. Mars signifies younger siblings and we all know that they were all ready to die for him. We can also include Hanuman in this case.
- George Bush Jr – He has Sun in the 12th house in MKS and his father helped him a lot. His Saturn is in the lagna so, both karakas of the lagna (Sun) and 12th house (Saturn) playing a role to help him rise in status & power.
- Mahatma Gandhi – He had Ketu in the 4th house which denotes the public and it needs no further explanation.
We can apply this based on different planets in MKS and people connected to it may be ready to die for you or to to any extent for your protection and benefit.
Second – If the karaka of the house is strong where another planet is placed in MKS, it has the ability to protect this house. This can make it completely positive and bring about great transformation. Lets say if Sun is in MKS and is Saturn is involved in a Raaj yoga and is strong then it gives status and power to the native as mentioned in George Bush’s case above.
- Adolf Hitler – He had Mars and Mercury in MKS in the 7th house. The karaka of the 7th Venus was also placed in the 7th house itself retrograde along with an exalted Sun. He lost the war but, had great power and influence.
